Clair embeds into third-party payroll and workforce management systems,
each with different data formats and — critically — different state-level EWA regulations.
The interface needed consistent compliance guardrails that could flex across partners
without a custom build each time.

OUR APPROACH
iii.
Turning regulatory constraints
into native product trust
Our approach was compliance-first:
build the regulated parts of the product —
state-by-state eligibility logic, FDIC disclosures,
fee transparency — so that they were structurally
correct by design, rather than layered on as legal
copy after the fact. This meant:

at each step — payroll connection, employee eligibility
configuration, compliance setup — to keep a regulated

On the consumer side, FDIC-insured account status
and fee transparency surfaced immediately, since a single
moment of confusion in a financial app tends to cause
abandonment rather than a retry. The earned-wage "unlock"
action was designed as a native account feature rather
than a loan-style upsell.
